E Safety Policy and Guidance
At St Merryn School, we recognise the importance of keeping everyone safe in an ever-growing and changing online and digital world. In our school, e-safety isn’t just about policy – it’s staying up to date with the digital environment and ensuring children have the tools and knowledge needed to make safe online choices.
Each year, we mark Safer Internet Day with a whole-school focus on E-Safety.
We have a range of online filtering and monitoring systems and work collaboratively with the South West Grid for Learning and the UK Safer Internet Centre. We provide support to parents about how to filter and monitor at home but crucially, why it’s important too!
To help us, the Safer Internet Centre have put together a range of resources and one of the most useful is Common Sense Media which provides a wealth of advice and resources for parents and teachers.

The UK Safer Internet Centre is full of resources, advice, ‘how to’ guides and videos to help you keep your child safe online.

Internet Matters has resources and advice for all online issues ranging from turning on timers and filters to ‘how to make my account private’.
Think U Know is a site provided by the National Crime Agency and ‘CEOP’ who work with all online organisations in the country and parts of Europe to advise and provide a safe online community for young people.
Net Aware is support for parents and carers from the NSPCC.
The London Grid for Learning provides support for parents and carers to keep children safe on line.
Parent Info is a site that provides help and advice for parents in a digital world.

We have uploaded the following information sheets about various games and apps: although many (if not all) are aimed at older children, we have had reports of children playing some of these games or using the apps.
