Meet the LAB Members
Mrs Nicola Soden
Chair of Governors
01/09/2018 - 31/08/2022
Nicola worked for Legal and General in their pensions department for 5 years. Soon after she joined, she was made deputy team leader and technical user. Nicola worked with their complaints department for a number of years clearing their suspense accounts.
Nicola then moved back down to Cornwall to set up a business with her parents and husband. She founded Kernow Chocolate in 2005 of which she is the Finance Director and Company Secretary and responsible for all the day to day finances and management accounts. In 2015 they moved premises and she over saw all the move including planning applications, liaising with the solicitors and sourcing all the utilities.
She then Joined Trevisker governing body in February 2014, keen to get more involved at Trevisker now both her children were attending there. She became chair of the LAB in September 2016 and also put herself forward to be a member of the board of trustees for TLAT.
Nicola's knowledge developed though working in the finance industry and running her own company has given her a great and different skill set to bring to the Board of Trustees.
After supporting the trust as a Trustee, and with the merge of ACE and TLAT to Kernow Learning, Nicola chose to use her strengths in the local community continuing to be Chair of Governors at Trevisker Primary School and was asked to become Chair of Governors for St Merryn School in 2018 and as a Super Chair in 2019 supporting other Chairs of Governors across the Trust.

As a grandparent I am thrilled to have been asked asked to become a community governor. I am passionate about the role grandparents play in school life and education and would love to use all my skills and contribute. I have a degree in Russian and a year teaching English in Sweden. For 35 years I wrote and edited material for pupils from 7-18 learning English as a foreign language and travelled doing many workshops and conferences. I am now retired and looking forward to my new challenge as a governor.
